The University of Chicago Medical Center is an academic medical center based in Hyde Park on the campus of the University of Chicago.1 It includes the Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital, Chicago Lying-in Hospital, University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine, and the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.1 The University of Chicago Medical Center has 596 beds in service.1

The University of Chicago began in 1892, and it was not until 1898 that the University became involved in medicine.

2 The original cost to start the University of Chicago Medical Center was $5.3 million back in 1916. However, due to
World War I, the construction got delayed. By the time of completion in 1927, the cost was around 5 times the original cost.
