Guide Note
Ultimate Spider-Man is a action/adventure game that was released on the Xbox, Playstation 2, PC, Gamecube, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS in 2005. The video game was also released as a mobile phone game during the same year. The Xbox, Playstation 2, and Gamecube versions were all developed by Treyarch, while Vicarious Visions developed the game for the Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo DS. Beenox Entertainment ported the console version of the game to the PC. While playing through the game, players encounter many of Spider-Man's greatest villains, including: Rhino, Electro, and, Spidy's most formidable foe, Venom. Villains aren't the only familiar characters player will see; as they go through the game, players will also recognize many other characters from Peter Parker's life, such as Aunt May and Mary Jane Watson. A limited edition version of the game was also released, the cover of which had a picture of Venom instead of Spider-Man. The limited edition also contained all sorts of goodies for the buyer, such as character biographies and a special edition comic book. While everyone's favorite webslinger was originally created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the game is based on Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley's newer Spidy of the same name as the game; this reincarnation of Spider-Man occurs in the Ultimates universe. While the game is based on one of Marvel Comics' most iconic and greatest superheroes, reviews for the game marked it as merely average, with the majority of reviews giving it about a 7/10.
