Guide Note: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are four anthropomorphic turtles that became a world-wide phenomenon in the late 1980's and early '90's thanks to their comic books, cartoon television show, live-action movies and wide variety of merchandising.

- The TMNT were created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 published by Mirage Studios, which ran from 1984 to 1989
- Archie Comics published a spin-off comic book from the cartoon show from 1988 to 1995 and Image Comics published a short run of comics in 1996 before Mirage Studios picked the series back up for publishing in 2001
- The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon television show ran from 1987 to 1996
