Symbian OS is a propietary operating system for smartphones, formerly known as EPOC. It's developed and licensed by Symbian Ltd. The company was founded in 1998 by mobile phone manufacturers Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola and Psion to support the development of EPOC.

- Symbian OS is designed to run exclusively on ARM processors
- First phone to use it was Nokia 9210 Communicator in 2001
- According to research firm Canalys, Symbian OS worldwide share for Q1 2007 was 72%
