Guide Note: The Statue of Liberty was given to us in the late 1800's by France as a symbol of freedom. A smaller version was erected in Paris, France along the Seine River three years later facing its sister statue. For hundreds of millions of immigrants the statue was their first glimpse of America and freedom.
