Guide Note: The Saint Bernard breed originated between the 1660's and 1670's in the Alps. These dogs were used by monks who traveled the "Great Saint Bernard Pass", which is located between Italy and Switzerland. Their job was to find and rescue lost hikers along this dangerous trail. The saint bernard is still well known for it's Keg, which the historical rescue dogs carried around their neck containing Brandy to warm the lost travelers.

- Barry is a historical rescue dog that was said to have rescued more than forty lost travelers. Decendants of this brave dog are still owned today at the monestary of "Great Saint Bernard Pass".
- General life span for a Saint Bernard is between 7 and 8 years.
- This breed is still used for cold terrain search and rescue all around the world.
