  • August 24, 1952: Born
  • 1980: Served as a quarterback coach and later offensive coordinator for the Broncos under Dan Reeves
  • 1988-89: Head coach of the Los Angeles Raiders, going 8-12 in less than two seasons
  • 1989: Returned to Broncos as offensive assistant under Reeves, found himself in between quarterback John Elway and Reeves feud, which caused him to be fired by Reeves
  • 1992: Hired as offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers on George Seifert's staff
  • 1994: Super Bowl victory with the 49ers after the 1994 season
  • 1995: Head coaching job with the Denver Broncos
  • 1997-1998: Led John Elway and the Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl championships
  • 2004: Joined the exclusive club of head coaches to post 100 wins in his first 10 seasons with one club
