Guide Note: Fritz Lang's Metropolis is one of the most elusive and influential films ever made. The original 210 minute cut premiered in Germany, but since then nearly a quarter of it has been lost. Subsequently, the film has been recut and released numerous times.
The two most well known rereleases are Giorgio Moroder's colorized "rock and roll" cut in 1984 and Kino International's cut in 2002 which restored the film closest to the original version.
