  • August 16, 1913: Born in in Brest, Russian Empire
  • 1931: Menachem Begin enrolled in Warsaw University
  • 1940: Arrested and sentenced for 8 years to the gulag camps
  • 1942: Begin is released from the Pechora labor camp under the Sikorski-Mayski Agreement
  • 1944: Begin assumed the Irgun organization leadership
  • 1948: Begin founded the right-wing political party Herut. Now known as Likud Party
  • 1948-1977: Under Begin, Herut formed the main opposition to the dominant Labor party in the Knesset
  • May 17,1977: the Likud, headed by Begin, won the parliamentary election by a landslide
  • September 17,1978: Camp David Accords
  • 1983: September, Begin stepped down as prime minister due to failing health and depression.
  • March 9, 1992: Begin died of heart failure in Tel Aviv, Israel (age 78)
