Guide Note:
MechAssault is a shooter/action game released exclusively on the Xbox on November 11, 2002. The game was developed by Day 1 Studios and published by Microsoft. The majority of reviews generally liked the game, and sales reflected the high scores the game received, as the game later went on to become a Platinum Hit (games that are offered at a lower price due to their high sales numbers). The game also spawned a sequel, entitled MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf, though it did not do as well as the original in terms of critic reception. MechAssault and it's sequel are both part of the MechWarrior series, which takes place in the BattleTech universe. Despite now being forgotten due to games like Halo and Halo 2, MechAssault is considered as the game that originally put Xbox Live on the map.
Gameplay
MechAssault can be played by one player or many at a time. The game can also be played via Xbox Live with several other gamers around the world. Single features a campaign where players attempt to halt the activities of terrorist group The Word of Blake using a variety of mechs. In multiplayer, each player chooses a mech and then they all duke it out on a stage of their choice to decide who reigns supreme; six different multiplayer game types are available. Each mech has different weapons, giving the player a different feel and experience depending on which mech they choose to use; they are ten different types of weapons of which most mechs can have three. Special mechs can be unlocked by beating the game's campaign (Ragnorok & Ymir), each of which contain an exclusive weapon that no other mech has.
