Guide Note: Maurice Smith better known as "Big Mo" is a professional kick boxer and mixed martial arts and a former UFC heavyweight champion. He started in to martial arts at the age of 13. In 1980 he competed in his first amateur kick boxing tournament. In 1983 Maurice won his first world championship title at the age of twenty one with a seventh round knockout victory over Canadian Tony Morelli. Later that year Maurice won another title for World Kick boxing Association (WKA). He went ten straight years without a loss, then he went to mixed martial arts for a new challenge. In 1996 he was the International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) World heavyweight champion. A year later he was the UFC heavy weight champion and UFC 15 tournament winner. In 2001 Maurice was K-1 World GP2001 Primary USA Tournament winner. In 2007 Maurice had his first mixed martial arts fight in almost seven years when he defeated Marco Ruas. Today Maurice is the coach for the Seattle Tiger Sharks of the International Fight League.
