Guide Note: Marvis Frazier, is a retired professional boxer and son of fomer heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier His sister Jackie Frazier-Lyde entered women's professional boxing at the age of 38. His brother Joe Frazier Jr was also a professional boxer. During his amateur career he defeated noteworthy opponents Tim Witherspoon and Bonecrusher Smith. He suffered an amateur loss when he was knocked out by James Broad. He also won the United States Amateur Heavyweight Championship. During his professional career he fought Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson. Both fights resulted in first round defeats by knockouts. There was much debate as to whether he was thrown into professional boxing too early and his trainer and father Joe Frazier was openly criticized for turning Marvis into a puncher instead of a fighter. Those were his only 2 professional defeats. After a successful professional career, Marvis Frazier now offers spiritual support to others as a Pentecostal Minister and is active in Prision Fellowship Ministries.
