Kentwan Balmer, who played college football at the University of North Carolina is considered to be one of the top draft picks in the 2008 NFL Draft. In his senior year, he moved to the position of left defensive tackle, from the position of right defensive tackle.

Balmer played at Weldon High School in North Carolina under the head coach Grady Williams. As a junior he registered 103 tackles, 11 sacks and one touchdown.

Balmer played for the North Carolina Tar Heels from 2004 through 2007, and played in about 30 games in three seasons. Out of the 30 games played Balmer started in 11 games.

Balmer is considered to be one of the top defensive tackle prospects for the first round of picks for the 2008 NFL Draft. Balmer is ranked third best available on the boards.
