Guide Note: Kazaa is a peer-to-peer download program that was extremely popular at the beginning of the decade. The company received quite a bit of negative publicity first from spyware and adaware that was bundled with their software and then from the RIAA who began prosecuting those using the service to download copyrighted material. Kazaa was also hounded by the recording industry which eventually won a landmark settlement against the company - they were forced to remove all copyrighted material from their network and were forced to pay a $100 million fine. This effectively marked the end of Kazaa.
