[edit] Guide Note:
Jerod Mayo played for the Tennessee Volunteers Football as a linebacker. He is skipping his senior year to enter the 2008 NFL Draft.
[edit] The Road to the NFL
Mayo was born in Hampton, Virginia, and went to high school at Kecoughtan High School. Mayo lettered three times in football as a linebacker and a running back under the coaching of Tommy Austin. He has a younger brother Deron who plays linebacker for Hofstra University.
Upon entering college he became a valuable member of the Tennessee Volunteers Football squad, with each year he overcame more..He overcame knee and ankle injuries early in his career to make a great linebacker. In just the 2007 season he had 140 tackles with 61 assisted tackles' In a game against Kentucky he tackled for 17 times in the game.
[edit] Pros and Cons
Mayo has great quickness and timed speed. Strength is on his side but injuries hopefully in past.He spends hours working on his skills after practice and watching game film, a natural feel for the game.
On the con side he is a marginal blitzer and has to learn to protect more up front. Barring future injuries he will make a great student in the NFL and will learn quickly.
