Henrik Ibsen was a major Norwegian playwright, often referred to as the father of modern realistic drama. His plays were considered as immoral and outrageous in the Victorian era.
Ibsen had a great influence on George Bernard Shaw's thinking who wrote favorably on his dramas and had translated some of his plays to English.
He was also a prolific painter.
