Greenhouse:Greenhouse QC Process
Greenhouse QC Processes
Greenhouse QC Process for PTG SeRPs
- Go to Greenhouse Pages and drag the box down to Submitted Search Terms from PTGs.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and pick the oldest SeRP there to QC.
- Click on that SeRP.
- Click the button that says "Review" (make sure you only hit Review if you have time to QC the SeRP, because the system generates an automatic email to the PTG saying the SeRP will be QC'd in 24 hours).
- Go to the Most Wanted List and make sure the SeRP is on there. If not, email/ping a member of that vertical who will let you know whether to proceed with the QC.
- Check the quality of the work before moving the page to Mahalo.
- REMEMBER: When a Mahalo page is created with the identical title as a Greenhouse page, the Greenhouse page is locked from editing. Don't make the Mahalo page until you are sure the SeRP is good enough to be accepted.
- To check the quality of the work, follow this process:
- STEP 1: Assess the page and make sure it looks complete and well-organized. Are there any sections it needs to have but doesn't? Is there a Guide Note, Fast Facts and related tags? If it's missing anything important or fails to follow Mahalo formatting and style rules, kick back the page.
- STEP 2: Click the "Open Links" button on the guide toolbar. Wait a few moments for all the links on the page to open. Skim quickly over all of the links. If more than 1/3 of the links look questionable or fail to meet Mahalo standards, kick back the page.
- STEP 3: Do a quick Google search. Does Google's Top 20 have quality links that you haven't yet visited? If so, kick back the page.
- If the SeRP is not acceptable, click the "Decline" button and send an email to the PTG explaining what they can do to improve the page. New Step: At the end of the email, ask the PTG to remember to email you when they've resubmitted; once you receive this notification, go to the page and click the Review button. Don't forget you've claimed the page for review!
- If the SeRP looks acceptable, move the page to Mahalo by clicking edit and copy/pasting the SeRP from Greenhouse. Then go to Mahalo, type the SeRP name into the search bar, click "create this page," and paste the Greenhouse SeRP into the blank window. Now you can QC as normal, and the Greenhouse page is locked from being edited.
- If you need to change the SeRP title, you can do so by clicking the button marked "Move" on the Greenhouse page. Do this before transferring the SeRP to Mahalo and consult an FTG before making the change.
- Begin a thorough QC on Mahalo. Make sure to add a warning tag to the top of the page saying:
- Our guides are currently updating this Greenhouse search result. Thank you for your patience.
- <font color="red">Our guides are currently updating this Greenhouse search result. Thank you for your patience.</font><br />
- As with any QC, make sure every link is checked thoroughly; add Related Searches as applicable; and add Warnings and Guide Choice tags as needed. Follow Related Searches links and add the new page as a Related on those pages. Make sure that no portion of the page was borrowed from Wikipedia or any other source by using the Plagiarism Tool.
- On the original Greenhouse page, click on the "Accept" button and email the PTG feedback.
- On Mahalo, assign the SeRP a percentage of completion.
- Add the "callout note" between the related and redirect tags. Here is an example:
<callout>*<em>This page was created by [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloprofile?uid=155 PTG NAME HERE], a Part Time Guide in the [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com Mahalo Greenhouse] (see [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Deadwood the original]), and curated by [http://www.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloprofile?uid=51 YOUR NAME HERE].
*If you'd like to help us create the best spam free search results on the Internet, [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloapplyform apply to be a Part Time Guide]!</em></callout>
- 15. Go to Most Wanted and delete the SeRP from the appropriate vertical list.
Greenhouse QC Process for Mentored SeRPs
- Note: The QC process is almost the same for a PTG SeRP and a Mentored SeRP.
- To access the Mentored SeRPs, go to Greenhouse Pages and select "Mentored Search Terms" from the drop down menu.
- Click on the SeRP you wish to QC.
- Change the drop down status bar to "Under Review."
- Remember, all feedback should go to the MM, not the PTG who created the SeRP.
- If the SeRP is accepted, click Accept, but do not write in the comment box - contact the MM who mentored the SeRP via email.
- If the SeRP is declined, DO NOT click Decline. Simply give the MM who QC'd SeRP feedback via email and tell him/her what to fix. Leave the serp as "Under Review" so the MM can re-QC it. They should let you know when it is finished so you can continue on with the process.
- The callout box should be written as follows:
<callout>*<em>This page was created by [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloprofile?uid=155 PTG NAME HERE], a Part Time Guide in the [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com Mahalo Greenhouse] (see [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Deadwood?title=Deadwood&oldid=6127 the original]), mentored by [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloprofile?uid=202 MM NAME HERE] and curated by [http://www.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloprofile?uid=51 YOUR NAME HERE].

MM QC Process
This is the process for Mahalo Mentors to QC SeRPs from new PTGs. This section is duplicated on Greenhouse:MM QC Process
MM QC Process
- Go to Greenhouse, click on "Manage", and choose "Submitted Search Terms from New PTGs" from the drop down menu. If there are no SeRPs to QC from a vertical that you are familiar with, choose "Submitted Search Terms from PTGs" from the drop down menu, and proceed as follows.
- Claim a SeRP to QC from the bottom area of this page (the older SeRPs) by clicking on it and then clicking "Review." You should only be QCing SeRPs from verticals that you are familiar with.
- Clicking "Review" sends an email to the PTG who created the SeRP, letting him/her know that the SeRP is under review. Please complete the following steps within 24 hours of clicking "Review."
- Go to the Most Wanted List and make sure the SeRP is on there. If not, email/ping a member of the Greenhouse team who will let you know whether to proceed with the QC.
- Do not begin fully QCing the SeRP until you are sure it meets the basic acceptance criteria. In addition to scanning the SeRP for structural adequacy (guide note, fast facts, section titles, etc.) you may also want to check a handful of links (the Top 7 is often a good indicator or whether it's a solid SeRP).
- If the SeRP does not meet the basic acceptance criteria, click "Decline" and write the PTG an encouraging note (in the comment box) which details why it needs work. In addition to linking to the style guide or training videos, you should give them specific reasons why they were declined, so they have a head start on getting accepted next time.
- If you feel that the SeRP is good enough to QC (almost all new PTG SeRPs will have a few errors), add a warning tag to the top of the page saying Our guides are currently updating this Greenhouse search result. Thank you for your patience. and then begin QCing.
- Warning Tag Wiki Markup: <font color="red">Our guides are currently updating this Greenhouse search result. Thank you for your patience.</font>
- 8. As with any QC, make sure every link is checked thoroughly; add Related Searches as applicable, add Warnings and Guide Choice tags as needed, and add/replace links where appropriate.
- 9. Once you're finished QCing, add the "callout note" between the related and redirect tags. Here is an example:
<callout>*<em>This page was created by [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloprofile?uid=155 PTG NAME HERE], a Part Time Guide in the [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com Mahalo Greenhouse] (see [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Deadwood the original]), and quality controlled by [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloprofile?uid=51 YOUR NAME HERE].
*If you'd like to help us create the best spam free search results on the Internet, [http://greenhouse.mahalo.com/Special:Mahaloapplyform apply to be a Part Time Guide]!</em></callout>
- Note: In the callout note, to get the link to the "original" SeRP created by the PTG, you have to click on the "History" button and link to the most recent version of the SeRP that has been created by the PTG.
- 10. Remove your warning tag from step 7.
- 11. Click "Accept" and write feedback to the PTG in the comment box (remember to be positive and supportive). A copy of your feedback will automatically be sent to Mentors at Mahalo.com. This is so we can learn from each other's feedback.
- 12. When you decline or accept a SeRP, go to the MM Weekly and fill in the SeRP name that you've accepted or declined in double brackets (ex. [[Daniel Baldwin]]). At the end of the week (on Sunday), add up all the SeRPs you've accepted, and put that number next to your name on the "MM Leaderboard."
- 13. If once you've QC'd a SeRP, an FTG kicks it back to you, make the suggested edits, click accept, and email the FTG who declined your QC to let him/her it's ready for another review. DO NOT kick the SeRP back to the PTG who created it. Once you accept a SeRP, you take it on as your own.
- 14. Final Thoughts - While making an accept/decline decision on any SeRP, ask yourself these 2 questions:
- If you plan to click "accept," have you taken this SeRP to the next level and turned it into a search result that you could be proud to claim as your own?
- If you plan to click "decline," is your feedback positive and helpful in such a way that it will encourage the PTG to keep working and resubmit his/her SeRP?
