The Ganges is one of the longest rivers in the world. It's main source is the Gangtori Glacier in the Himalayas.
It is the most scared river of Hinduism, the majority of India's population. It is used in Rituals and many asked to be cremated and ashes then be placed in river.
The basin is the most densely populated and agriculturally productive. Snow capped mountains keeps the water sizable year round, but the monsoons in summer can cause destructive flooding in the delta region.
Major polluting of the river comes from the leather industries that have sprung up along river,which discharges chromiums and other chemicals in the river.
