Guide Note:Diego Sanchez, was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and began karate lessons at nine years old. Years of martial arts training aided his athletic pursuits at Del Norde High School as a wrestler. This also aided him on the high school gridiron as a linebacker. In his senior year in 2000, he won the state championship in the 152 lb weight class. Making his Mixed Martial Arts debut in 2002, he fought in small shows, mostly the King of the Cage promotion, and has trained with Greg Jackson his entire career. He appeared on the TV reality show The Ultimate Fighter, where he defeated Kenny Florian in the finals to earn a UFC contract. Since winning on the show, he has been able to dominate the middleweight division and now has his eyes set on the champion, George St. Pierre. On September 22, 2007, he fought against Jon Fitch at UFC 76 in the welterweight division. In 2006, at UFC Fight Night 7, he had his first knockout win of his career. As of 2008, Sanchez has compiled a professional record of 18 wins, 2 losses, and 0 Draws.
