[edit] Synopsis
"Violet Hill" shows us the darker side of Coldplay. Though it is not as good as many of their previous videos, it does show off the expanding ranges that the group is venturing into. The dense, empty, background in the video shoots accurately depict the mood of the lovelorn vocals expressed through Martin's earthy, surreal, vocals.
[edit] Background
Filmed in
Sicily, with famed producer
Brian Eno, "Violet Hill" is the first song from the band to be branded anti_war. On May 17th, an alternate version of the video was on the bands official website. It consists of twisted together clips of George W. Bush along with other political figures backdropped with scenes of war and chaos. The official video was released the next day. The song debuted in the #40 position on the Billboard Hot 100.
