Hunter grew up with a mother who repaired guitars for a living, so he new at a young age he wanted to play the guitar. He bought his first guitar for only seven dollars when he was around seven years old.4

Hunter started his career with his debut album titled Hunter in 1993, on which he played his first seven string guitar.5 Hunter performed with the group T.J. Kirk until 1996. In 1997, Hunter recorded the album Natty Dread, which was considered his best album. In 2003, Hunter performed on a new label while performing with two different groups. The groups were called The Charlie Hunter Trio and the Groundtruther. In 2007, Hunter formed yet another trio called Fantasy and released the album Mistico.6 In 2009, through February, Charlie Hunter has tour dates scheduled in Japan and the United States.7
